Sun Ra’s Pathways through the 1970s
Sun Ra, by his attestation, may not have been of this world, but he was most certainly in this world during the 1970s; and like others who inhabited the space commonly associated with jazz during those times, his pathways grazed musical trends of the day. This NPR feature, by Jeff Golick and Jeff Jackson of Destination: OUT, points to five recordings documenting Sun Ra’s travels during that period.

View VideoRemembering David S. Ware
Nate Chinen, music critic at the New York Times, did his job especially well: his account of the recent memorial for saxophonist David S. Ware, with many new music luminaries in attendance, made me regret that I hadn’t been there. And it compelled me to watch this video, shown in part at the memorial and just posted the week of the Ware memorial. This documentary supports my hunch that the world of new music will be much the poorer in David S. Ware’s absence.
