Tackling the ‘30s swing work of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Fletcher Henderson, and others, the Manhattan Transfer take a fresh approach to a terrific set of age-old tunes. Rather than taking the hyper-stylized approach of the Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the other “swing” bands that had created a phenomena at the time, the Transfer wisely choose to enlist the talents of Asleep at the Wheel, pedal steel guitar master Buddy Emmons, and violinists Mark O’Connor and special guest Stéphane Grappelli to create their own take on these timeless songs.
